    Lord Robert Baden-Powell (1857-1941) founded the Scouting movement in England in August 1907, when he held an experimental camp for boys from differing socio-economic backgrounds at Brownsea Island, Dorset, to develop "pluck, intelligence, initiative, and a spirit of adventure".
